SpectraWave is built so that we never see your data at all. This policy covers SpectraWave on iPhone, and on Android (coming soon to Google Play), and it is short because there is almost nothing to disclose.
Nothing. SpectraWave has no accounts, no sign-up, no analytics, and no advertising, on either platform. We do not operate any server that receives your data. The app does not need an internet connection to work and records and plays back fully in airplane mode, on iPhone or Android. On Android, the app does contain Google's Play Billing library, described below under "Google Play Billing on Android": it is not an analytics or advertising SDK, and it never reports what you record back to us.
SpectraWave records audio using your device microphone, with your permission, so you can capture and replay sounds in the room. Every recording is written to your device and stays there, on iPhone or Android. Audio is never uploaded to us or to anyone else, and all playback effects (slow, reverse, clarity) run entirely on your device. A clip only leaves your phone if you choose to share it yourself. During recording, SpectraWave shows a scrolling word overlay on screen as on-screen ambience: those words come from a bundled word list and are purely cosmetic, never recorded into the clip's audio and never generated from anything the microphone hears.
With SpectraWave Pro, a recording can keep going after you leave the app. On iPhone, this shows as a Live Activity on your Lock Screen. On Android, it runs as a declared foreground service with an ongoing, non-dismissible notification showing the elapsed time and marker count while the microphone stays on, so you always know recording is still happening; stopping the recording from the app or the notification's Stop action turns the microphone off immediately.
Your clips, markers, and notes are stored on your device. On iPhone, if iCloud is available, your data may also be stored in your personal, private iCloud database, encrypted by Apple. On Android, your clips stay on the phone in a local database with no cloud sync of our own; because recordings can be long and numerous, SpectraWave excludes your clip audio and its database from Android's own cloud backup, so a recording is never part of your Google account backup, while moving to a new phone with Android's own device-to-device transfer copies everything. We have no access to any of it, on either platform.
On Android, an optional Home Screen widget shows your clip count and whether a recording is in progress, read from a small snapshot file kept on your device. The widget never makes a network call.
SpectraWave does not use the camera, your location, or your contacts, on either platform.
On Android, SpectraWave asks for the microphone (to record) and, for a Pro background recording, notifications and a declared foreground service (so the ongoing-recording notification can be shown). You can review or revoke any of these at any time in Settings > Apps > SpectraWave > Permissions; revoking the microphone simply stops recording rather than crashing the app.
On Android, SpectraWave contains no analytics or advertising SDKs. It does contain Google Play's billing library, which Google Play requires for in-app purchases. That library lets Google Play process and restore your Pro purchase, and it also sends Google technical diagnostics about those purchase connections, such as whether a request to Google Play succeeded, so Google can keep its billing service working. Google handles this under Google's own privacy policy, and it never includes anything you record.
The optional one-time SpectraWave Pro purchase has no subscription, the same on both platforms. On iPhone, it is processed entirely by Apple through your App Store account. On Android, it is processed entirely by Google Play through your Google Play account, and refunds are handled by Google Play under its own policy (Play Store > Menu > Order history, or support.google.com/googleplay). We receive no payment details on either platform, and because it is a one-time purchase, there is nothing to cancel.
You can export any clip and its marker transcript at any time. On iPhone, erase everything by deleting the app (and removing SpectraWave data from iCloud in iOS Settings). On Android, uninstalling the app deletes its local data immediately.
SpectraWave is not directed at children under 13.
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
